June 11th, 2008, 08:17:55 PM
Just announcing this early, once Brawl is released in Europe, I'll be able to present the new Brawl site, along with hosting an entire VGLan Brawl Tourney. I'll update you guys once the official site is ready for use.

Finally. Europeans and Australians (here's looking at you, Magikku and Doc-Yoshi :winks:) will finally be able to enjoy Brawl at last. Only 15/16 more days to go.

Hang in there, euro/aussie folks.

A tourney? Sounds good to me. I of course got an import copy of the game, because I really could not wait. One thing I will say now is that when I tried to play against someone I know using FCs, it didn't work for me. He said it was my crappy netgear router, although recently it has been better. So, is there anyone who I can play a test match against to see if my connection works?

A tournament faggot (or tourneyfag as you know) is the slang term given to people that seriously play competitive mulitplayer games.

In other words, it's EVIL to play on a few stages and have no items.

A tournament faggot (or tourneyfag as you know) is the slang term given to people that seriously play competitive mulitplayer games.

In other words, it's EVIL to play on a few stages and have no items.Your explanation is all wrong.

A tourneyfag is a person that play Smash Bros. based solely on the concept that a "true champion" will play using only the "skills related to the characters".

You'd figure that they could manage with items anyways, but no, because "it gives an unfair advantage to the other player". Which makes no sense considering that anyone can use an item. I rather think that is because items are unpredictable, and Tourneyfags can't deal with anything unpredictable.

And same is said about stage hazards, even thought they affect everyone, not just the tourneyfags.

What we mean is, Brawl isn't just a game of Character Skills. It's also a game where you have to take advantage of what you have at hand and be careful not to fall into the Boiling Lava. My ideology of a true champion is that he can do all of this.

No, it's because some items give a completely unfair advantage. It's not as simple as, "Oh he's got a starman/hammer, just dodge him..." as most tournament fighters are at the skilled enough level that they can easily chase the other player leaving the other player with no defense or way to counter.
I know I'd be steamed if lost a tournament that would've given me $100 just because the other player had a hammer appear next to him and got 2 KOs out of me when he only had 1 stock left and was at 100%+
I figure they banned all items as it was simpler to just say, "No items!" Instead of... "well you can use such and such items... but not this or that." And to prevent an argument on what is the overall accepted frequency that items should appear at.

And same is said about stage hazards, even thought they affect everyone, not just the tourneyfags.
This I agree on. If you're skilled enough you should be able to deal with stage hazards... also they give the gameplay a good mixture of strategy instead of just seeing who has the better reflexes.

In other news... I'm selling some "virtual pet" junk so that I'll have enough money to buy a wii. I may be able to compete in the tournament provided I get the money soon and the store has a wii and a copy of brawl available for me to buy.

Faltzer
June 16th, 2008, 06:58:56 PM
Actually, the tournament won't be held that same day, as I thought that it would be best to let the newer people complete the majority of it, and have an understanding of everything before taking on the more experienced players.

That's good. That way, I have more time to get preperations set up for my recording. Also, the game is released on a day I can't record it. So, I'd say give everyone 3 weeks after the game has come out. That should give them enough time to get used to the game.

It sounds to me like your definition of brawl is a casual one, and there is nothing wrong with that at all, I just think that you are hating on the "Tourneyfags" like myself. When I play my brother or my friends, I personally prefer every serious match to be Final Destination with no items, 1-3 life stock because we know a true brawler should be able to win without lucksacking a KO from the stage or getting a hammer. Although you think that items are free to everyone and stages effect everyone, in all honesty, they arn't. Plus, we don't want to be bogged down with other effects that make the game less fun while we play a serious match. I'm not sure if it's just me, but when i play a serious match, I get focused, I preform better, But most importantly, I have fun. Hardcore fun.

BTW, "Tourneyfags" don't hate casual play, they just want an honest game more often than others.
