I have looked at your current NES control scheme:

http://www.thealmightyguru.com/Reviews/BionicCommando/Images/NES-Controller.jpg

D-Pad: Move
A: Attack, works in 3 directions
B: Jump, can press again in mid-air for double jump.
Select: ???
Start: Pause

It is basic. Thats cool with me.

But with my control scheme, It would have basically all the moves of the Smash Bros series:

A: Basic Attack, can use quickly for Rapid Attacks, can be used in mid-air
A+D-Pad: Strong Attack - Works in all directions (Up, Down, Left, Right) both on ground and mid-air, 8 moves total.
B: Jump - Can use single or double jumps, also used to begin mid-air attacks.
B+D-Pad: Smash Attacks. Strong, chargable attacks with immense power.
A+B: Special Attacks - Directions allow directed specials.
Select: Shield with no direction, Grab when directed - When opponent is grabbed, press A to attack them. Press a direction to throw them.
Start: Pause

The only move you don't see here is dodging. Without L+R, it's not possible.

This adds so much more diversity with what moves are possible.

Think about it...

Why don't you just get a game pad and use a program to map the keys to the gamepad buttons? Maybe Space Yoshi X might add control settings, don't know.

My point exactly. He could adopt my control scheme and use it. It would allow for MORE attacks.

Three attacks seems too basic to me...

I'm pretty sure he said it was only three because most of them have very limited sprites, so it's hard to come up with more moves. Which is why DK only made AT.

The average keyboard has 103 keys.

The average NES game's hero has 1-2 moves.

There is a large error in your control scheme.

...

this is an NES layout:

A=
B=
Select=
Start=
D-Pad =

Those are the 4 buttons. Now, what keys on a keyboard are represented by these buttons?

Here is the most basic layout:

A= A
B= S
Select= Space
Start= Enter
D-Pad = Arrow Keys

What are your key/buttons?

You're really missing the point.

Its impossible to have that many moves, regardless of controls.
